2022-2023

We were excited to have a visit from our Pets As Therapy dog, Cooper. The children all read to Cooper and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Coronation Celebrations

We began our new theme by exploring seeds, flowers and growing!

We dressed up for World Book Day and enjoyed lots of book based activities throughout the day, including creating a book in a box and reading with our Y6 buddies.

We took an early morning walk and used our senses to explore the ice and frost.

We investigated creating tints and shades of blue by adding different amounts of white or black paint.

We started our new theme with a fairytale day. We dressed as fairytale characters, explored magical fairytale potions, shared fairytale stories and created fairytale maps amongst many other fairytale themed activities.

Our First Week In School

2021-2022

Our artist study day focused on Andy Goldsworthy. We learnt that he creates transient art and sculptures. We were also interested to learn that he takes photos of his sculptures and artwork over time to observe the changes. We discussed what these changes might be and used our prior learning about the seasons and weather to inform our thinking.

As part of our learning linked to sunflowers we were excited to find an artist that drew, painted and studied lots of them! We looked at Vincent Van-Gogh's artwork in detail, discovering that he used thick oil paints and exploring the types of marks and brush strokes and patterns he created before recreating our own versions of his work.

Our new term started with a visit to our local park. We had fun in the sun with a wealth of activities. We took part in a scavenger hunt, searched for reflective materials, compared and measured shadows, made daisy chains and even had time for a quick play on the playground equipment!

World Book Day Fun!

The charity Go Kids Go visited us and we all took part in a wheelchair awareness workshop. This enabled us to challenge our thoughts about difference and how we view others.

We learnt about different celebrations of light. We discussed what we knew about Hannukah, Diwali, Bonfire Night, Christingle and Christmas. We explored the similarities and differences between these festivals. We noticed that they all involve families and friends meeting together and celebrating with special foods. We tried making samosas and mince pies.

We ended our first half-term at Bradfield by holding a Forest School campfire and toasting marshmallows. We learnt that you need three elements to create a fire: oxygen, fuel and heat.

We have been really busy exploring our new school.

2020-2021

We worked in groups to think about the features of a coastal habitat. We discussed the features which are made by humans such as lighthouses, sea walls, cafes, lifeboat stations as well as those which are physical features, these included cliffs, beaches, caves, arches and stacks. We created our own coastal habitats.

Our difficult word of the day was buoyant! We learnt what buoyant means and we were amazed at how it is spelt! We investigated whether we could make boats which were buoyant using playdough. It was trickier than we anticipated!

We made our own ice lollies to enjoy during the hot weather. We had to do some problem solving to decide how we could make sure the colours of each layer didn't mix together. Most of us gave our finished lollies a big thumbs up when we tasted them.

Our engage beach day was full of lots of different activities linked to the beach and coast. We spent time paddling, building sandcastles, creating sand sculptures and art, exploring rock pools, studying shells and other coastal artefacts and creating art work linked to the seaside. We investigated why the sea is salty and thought of lots of ideas and questions about what we would like to learn about during the rest of our topic. We all agreed that the ice lollies for snack were delicious!

We explored how we could manipulate paper to create colourful 3D art!

We began our new topic by looking at photos of rainbows and sharing our knowledge. We used chalks, water, paints and foam to explore colours and colour mixing. We thought about whether we preferred how the colours blended with or without water added. We finished our colourful rainbow afternoon using scarves and ribbons to create our own movements and dance.

We have spent the final week of our Spring 2 topic thinking about Easter. We began our week by learning about why Christians celebrate Easter and decorating our Easter tree. We learnt that Easter eggs are a representation of new life. We thought about Spring being a time of new life and growth and we did some observational drawings and paintings of chicks. We used our imaginations to create our own nests and houses for our chicks. We used the IPads to research and discover information about the life cycle of a chicken. There was lots of excitement when it was time for our Easter golden ticket hunt!

We had a fantastic and very busy morning exploring the Little City! We explored lots of different jobs and had lots of time to share our experiences in shops, hair salons, cafes, vets and doctors amongst other places!

Please look at all the wonderful learning we have been doing at home using the link below.

We have had a busy few weeks in school with lots of Christmas excitement! Take a look at what we have been getting up to!

We began advent by creating christingles and taking part in the whole school zoom christingle assembly. We all listened carefully to the prayers and sang our Christmas Lights song.

To start our new topic our engage activity was to conduct a traffic survey outside our school. We learnt about road safety and remembered to wear our high-vis jackets so drivers would see us from a distance. We looked carefully at the different types of transport as they passed and helped each other to count carefully. We also noticed that the different types of transport sounded different as they approached, some vehicles were very quiet and others were really loud!

We have lots of fun in Forest Schools.

Our innovate activity was to create squirrel muffins using our knowledge of what squirrels might need for hibernation. We also explored the autumn leaves around our school grounds. We looked carefully at the colours, shapes and sizes of the leaves we found and had a go at trying to identify them on our hunt sheets. We collected some of our favourites to look at closely using magnifying glasses.

We shared the book 'Too Many Carrots' by Katy Hudson and came up with lots of ideas for how we could use up all the extra carrots that rabbit had collected. We all voted in class for the recipe we would like to make and the most popular choice was carrot cake! We used lots of different skills to bake our carrot cake muffins and most of us thought they tasted delicious!

We have enjoyed our first weeks in school and have been exploring our new classroom and school.

2019-2020

As part of our home learning we chose to create medals to say thank you to the NHS staff and carers for all their hard work.

We each created a special heart to celebrate Mother's Day. We placed all our tile hearts together to create a collaborative art work.

On World Book Day we dressed as our favourite book characters. We thought about similarities and differences between our characters. We were all keen to share our favourite books with each other!

Our theme for the first half of the Spring term is

'Will you read me a story?'

During the half term we will be developing our learning around traditional tales, homes and castles, magic and fantasy, stories and sound.

To end our topic we organised and held a fairytale tea party for our parents. We used lots of different skills whilst preparing our tea party. We made sandwiches, baked cakes and designed and created a tablecloth. We all dressed as our favourite fairytale characters and were very excited when it was time for the tea party to start.

We worked together to bake gingerbread men. We followed the recipe carefully and used our phonics knowledge to help us read the words. We thought about how we could measure and weigh the ingredients accurately.

Our theme for the second half of the Autumn term is

'Why do squirrels hide their nuts?'

During the half term we will learn about Autumn, woodland animals, hibernation and migration.

We used a range of resources to create remembrance poppies. We thought about the different materials, patterns and shapes we could use to represent different parts of the poppy.

To start our new theme we had a memorable afternoon in the woodland. We searched for signs of Autumn and used our checklists to help us remember what we had found. We looked for signs of woodland animals and compared similarities and differences in leaves. We ended our time in the woodland by toasting marshmallows on the fire.

Our theme for the first half term of the year is 'Do you want to be friends?'

We will be learning about friendship, co-operation, ourselves, people who help us and similarities and differences.

To finish our topic we created thank you cards for members of our family. We walked to the Bradfield post office to post them in the post box. We are looking forward to our cards arriving at our houses over half term!

We invited our parents into school for our Express Event. We searched the school grounds for Autumn symbols and then worked together with our parents to complete the challenges. We also presented our families with our salt dough flower decorations to say thank you for all they do for us.

We worked hard to bake and decorate our cupcakes for the Grandparent's Harvest Tea Party.

We have been very busy during our first few days at school.

2018-2019

Our memorable experience to begin our topic was a visit to the beach.

We ended our farm based topic with our farm shop express event. We baked three types of bread rolls, picked herbs from our herb garden and picked tomatoes from our plants to sell to our parents. Our farm shop was a great success and all our farm produce sold out!

We had the opportunity to visit DanceEast as part of our creative curriculum. We took part in a range of creative activities including doodle dance, creative ballet and circus skills. We even had the opportunity to watch a professional dance company in rehearsals.

We had a lovely morning spending time with our year 5 buddies. We worked on orienteering challenges together where we had to share our calculation skills. The year 5 children became teachers, sharing their knowledge of sign language with us. They taught us how to sign our names.

We had a visit from Mrs Earl who is a vet. She spoke to us about the skills needed to be a vet and what she does every day. We learnt lots of information and enjoyed trying out some of her vetinary equipment ourselves.

Our memorable experience to begin our topic was to visit Boydell's Dairy Farm. We had a brilliant day! We had the opportunity to feed lots of farm animals, we bottle fed some lambs who were a few days old, met chicks, played with the goat kids and even walked some rabbits!

We ended our Why Do Ladybirds Have Spots? topic with a busy minibeast madness activity afternoon with our families. At the end of our topic it was time to say goodbye to our butterflies which we watched grow from tiny caterpillars.

To begin our Why Do Ladybirds Have Spots? topic we had a memorable experience in our woodland area. We searched for different minibeast, looked at similarities and differences and tried to identify the flowers and trees we found.

To end our fairytale topic, Will You Read Me A Story?, we organised and held a fairytale tea party for our families. We designed and made a tablecloth and decorations and wrote menus, invitations and signs. We baked cupcakes and made heart shaped jam sandwiches. We decided to perform The Little Red Hen story to our guests.

We decided to practise our dance moves so that we could attend Cinderella's ball. The children thought about what a Royal Ball might include and decided to design and create masquerade masks.

We enjoyed learning about The Gingerbread Man story and had fun baking our own gingerbread people.

Unfortunately when we returned to school the next day one of our gingerbread men had run away! We set out using our detective skills to try and find him. We found lots of clues and recorded the evidence we found using clipboards and Ipads.

As part of our memorable experience to begin our Will You Read Me A Story? topic we visited the pantomime. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed meeting all the characters after the show! When we returned to school we took part in lots of different activities based around fairy tales. One of our favourite activities was working in pairs to create a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross the river. We had to use lots of our learning behaviours to be successful, including not giving up, using our imaginations, pushing our ourselves and understanding others.

We have had a busy time in the lead up to Christmas. The children have enjoyed visiting the Peter Pan pantomime, decorating the Christmas tree, making paperchains and posting a letter to Santa. We have also been using our kindness advent calendar to help us think about people who might be less fortunate than us at Christmas.

Remembrance Day 2018

bramley-yr

Our memorable experience to begin our Why Do Squirrels Hide Their Nuts? topic was an afternoon in Meadows! We hunted for signs of Autumn and all shared lots of knowledge. We looked for signs of hibernating animals and thought about where animals might choose to hibernate and why. Our favourite part of the afternoon was creating a fire and cooking on it. We all toasted marshmallows and made drop scones!

We searched for an apple tree in our school grounds. Luckily we found one and collected some juicy Bramley apples. Next we picked blackberries from the bushes around our school. We had lots of ideas about what we could cook with our apples and blackberries but in the end we all agreed to cook a blackberry and apple crumble. It tasted delicious!

We thought about what would make a secure nest for our Owl Babies. We decided they needed to feel warm, snuggly and safe. Scarlett thought about how she could camouflage her owl from predators.

We have already begun learning to recognise letters and learn their sounds. Look at our wonderful letter formation.

We have been busy during our first few days at school. We have been exploring all the different areas of our classroom and school.
