Meet your Governors

The Governing Body of Bradfield Primary School is made up of elected Parent Governors, a Local Authority Governor, co-opted Governors and a Staff Governor plus the Headteacher.  We may also appoint Associate Members.

The three core strategic functions of the Bradfield Primary School Governing Body are:
1.  Ensuring the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
2.  Supportively holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
3.  Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is well spent.

The school’s Governors are all volunteers with a varied background whose common interest is in ensuring Bradfield Primary School remains the excellent learning environment that it is, and that it continues to improve.
If you are interested in becoming a governor please speak to the Headteacher, the Chair or Vice-Chair of Governors, who can advise on which skills are currently required.

ANJA NEWMAN

Local Authority Governor
Chair of Governing Body

I have lived in Bradfield since 2006 and both my children attended Bradfield school. I joined the Governing Body in 2014 because I am passionate about a high-quality, state education that maximises opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds. Part of the role of a Governor that I particularly enjoy is to challenge and support the school to secure the best education for all children at Bradfield.

LOU THOMAS-UNGER

Co-opted Governor

Vice-Chair of Governors

I have lived in Bradfield for 15 years and my 3 children have been taught at Bradfield Primary School and have now moved on to Secondary School.

I have a BA Hons in English Literature and Language from Reading University and my background is in Learning and Development within Policing. I have spent a career building trusting, supportive relationships in which learning can thrive.

My late mother was a Maths Secondary teacher and I know first-hand the passion and hard work that goes into teaching and the impact that good education can have on children’s futures.

I want to give my time to provide support to ensure the school that educated my children continues to deliver safe, nurturing quality learning.

PETER HALLIDAY

Co-opted Governor

I worked in education for 47 years before retiring in 2015. I spent 7 years as a deputy head and 21 years as a headteacher in primary schools and 5 years as a part-time OFSTED school inspector. After retiring from headship, I spent a very happy 10 years teaching all the classes part-time at Bradfield Primary (my seventh and favourite school). I have a particular interest in environmental education and in the education of more-able pupils. I am married to Francesca who was an inspector for the Care Quality Commission and we have two sons, both teachers.
