The Governing Body of Bradfield Primary School is made up of elected Parent Governors, a Local Authority Governor, co-opted Governors and a Staff Governor plus the Headteacher. We may also appoint Associate Members.
The four core strategic functions of the Bradfield Primary School Governing Body are:
1. Ensuring the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
2. Supportively holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is well spent.
4. Ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard
Training Link Governor
I have lived in Bradfield for fifteen years and both my children have attended Bradfield school. I joined the Governing Body in 2014 because I am passionate about a high quality, state education that maximises opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds and I wanted to do something to support my local school. With experience as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (designing jet engines), and a secondary school maths teacher, I still get very excited by data; part of my role as a Governor is to challenge the performance data to secure the best education for all children at Bradfield.
Vice-Chair of Governing Body
Chair - Resources Committee
I worked in education for 47 years before retiring in 2015. I spent 7 years as a deputy head and 21 years as a headteacher in primary schools and 5 years as a part-time OFSTED school inspector. After retiring from headship, I spent a very happy 10 years teaching all the classes part-time at Bradfield Primary (my seventh and favourite school). I have a particular interest in environmental education and in the education of more-able pupils. I am married to Francesca who was an inspector for the Care Quality Commission and we have two sons, both teachers.
I am an ACCA qualified accountant and have worked in the Corporate Sector for 16 years. In 2016 I moved into the Education Sector and was a Finance Review Consultant for Essex County Council providing governors of schools and academies with recommendations to strengthen the internal controls in place. Because of this role, I decided to become a governor of a school and what better place than Bradfield. My first daughter attended Bradfield School, and my second daughter is in Year 1. I joined this governing body as I wanted to have some input into a school which is familiar and local to me. I am bringing my finance skills and knowledge from my previous and current role to the governing body to support the school in continuing to thrive.
My background is in general nursing and quality assurance. I was an inspector for the Care Quality Commission for a number of years before my retirement. I have always had an interest in education and was keen to be a governor in a school with a good ethos such as Bradfield Primary. I am particularly interested in Early Years education, the support of children with special needs and in the promotion of equality.
