We enjoy learning both in and outside the classroom.
Our theme for the second half of the Summer term is
'Who lives in a rock pool?'
We will be exploring the seashore and the plants and animals that live there.
A few months ago we started a potato growing competition. We split into two groups, Rockets and Rudolphs (the names of the two types of potatoes we were growing). We have cared for our potatoes, watered them, topped up their soil and watched the leaves and stalks grow taller. It was finally time to find out whether the potatoes had grown in the soil, which variety would be the winners?
We worked together to find all the potatoes in each bag. We decided to count them to see which had the most. Next we checked which variety had the biggest potato and finally we weighed all the potatoes of each variety. The final winners were the Rudolph variety.
We have had a busy Summer term and our most recent adventure was our visit to Jimmy's Farm. We had lots of fun and lots of opportunities to explore the farm park and woodland. We even cooked sausages on our own camp fire in a wheelbarrow!
"I loved the butterflies. I wish I was a butterfly then I could fly to a hot country and go in the rainforest!" Sienna
"There were nine tiny piglets. I don't think my Mum would like nine babies!" Stephen
"I want to go to Jimmy's Farm again." Freddie
We had a great time watching our eggs hatch into ducklings. We noticed lots of changes as they grew and we particularly enjoyed watching swimming sessions in the water tray!
Our ducklings helped us learn in all areas of the curriculum. Sienna even decided to read a story to the ducklings as she thought they might get bored!
After lots of deliberation and debate we voted to name our ducklings Rose, Jemima and Billy.
"Ducks have webbed feet to help them swim better in the water." Jake
"The ducklings have to peck 100 times to get out of their eggs." Esme
